Vardamir Nólimon was the eldest child of Elros Tar-Minyatur, and second King of Númenor. Elrond Half-elven was his uncle. Vardamir may have been a Half-elf, with slow maturity like the Elves and ability to choose a mortal or immortal fate.

Biography

Vardamir was heir to the Kingship of Númenor, noted as an exceptional scholar whose only desire was to study, not to rule. When Elros died, Vardamir immediately abdicated in favour of his son, Tar-Amandil. He was counted as the second King of Númenor, having nominally ruled for a single year. He died in year 471 of the Second Age, aged 410 years. If Vardamir was a Half-elf, he therefore chose a mortal fate.

He had three younger siblings: Tindómiel, Manwendil, and Atanalcar.

He had four children:

Etymology

Vardamir is a Quenya name meaning "Jewel of Varda", from Varda, a Valar, and mírë, meaning 'jewel'.

Other versions of the legendarium

Tolkien considered giving Vardamir the choice of the Half-elven, such that the son of Elros would match the children of Elrond. Whether he committed this idea or not is unclear, as Vardamir's three younger siblings are not mentioned in the essay explaining this.
