Shrentak was first established in the Age of Might as a large trade city, located in the southwest corner of Blödehelm. Similar in many respects to Xak Tsaroth, the city had strong trade relationships with both the dwarven and elven nations. Merchant caravans used it as a stopping point to peddle their wares and it was known as a centre of freedom and equality between all peoples. This greatly angered the holy nation of Istar whose close-minded mandates opposed many of the acts of the citizens of Shrentak. Istar sent the forces of Solamnia to act on their behalf, however before the army could reach Shrentak the Cataclysm struck and the army was drowned.
In the Age of Despair, Shrentak suffered from attacks by ogres and human warlords, however remained a center of trade. Whilst still ruled by a merchant lord, Shrentak became a vassal-state of Vantal, signing an alliance to protect one another. Shrentak remained a free and peaceful city until the arrival of the dragon Onysablet in the Age of Mortals. The dragon created a vast swamp, and soon Shrentak found itself no longer surrounded by lovely plains, but instead mired in Sable's Swamp. The dragon and her minions deposed the ruling merchant lord and took over the city, with the dragon herself as the ruler.
With the death of Onysablet it is unknown who rules Shrentak now, however her minions did reside in the city in great numbers and are presumed to still control the city.
