Pentar is a large town in the nation of Nordmaar, which is located southwest of Jotan and northwards of Haant. The town is inhabited by the Cuichtalic tribe and is the largest port town of Nordmaar, and has one of the largest fishing fleets in all of Ansalon. It was first founded in the early part of the Age of Despair, to fulfil a need for sailors for stop somewhere between Palanthas and the Blood Sea Isles, whether it is for repairs or rest. Pentar has a large floating marketplace, which is said by many, to rival the markets of Palanthas, and involves hundreds of ships, rafts, and varying vessels connected by rope bridges. Several large galleons number amongst the vessels in the floating market, which have been converted to inns and taverns.

The town itself is filled with both lavish villas made of clay brick, and thatch-roofed wooden houses. Pentar is surrounded by a fifteen foot high stone wall that has three gates leading out of it, which lead to Haant, Jotan, and Willik, respectively. All three gates are patrolled heavily by the Seaguard of Pentar, the volunteer militia of the town.

During the Age of Despair, the twin rulers of Pentar chose to work with the Red Dragonarmy, in exchange for leaving the city and its people untouched. The city later suffered from an incursion by shadow wights, but were able to turn aside the threat, albeit with extensive casualties. The town has since continued to prosper and is the home for ship captains and sailors in this part of the world.
