Description

Caer Windlauer orbits the sun at 45 degrees to the ecliptic in a highly elliptical orbit, coming as close as Coliar to the sun and drifting as far away as Karpri. The castle itself is a magnificent structure constructed of perfectly cut stone, with ten towers over 100 feet (30 meters) tall and 20-foot (6 meter) high vine-covered walls. The castle is surrounded by an estate that stretches for thousands of acres, and is covered in soft green grass, broad-leaved trees, meandering streams and a lake inhabited by a few dozen geese.

History

Caer Windlauer was originally located on the outskirts of the city of Trondheim, near the northern coast of the isle of Oman in the Moonshaes area of Toril. Several years ago, the estate's owner, an introverted, timid, and extremely fearful man by the name of Omar McDauphin purchased a ring of three wishes in the hopes of protecting himself and his family from harm.

After some deliberation, he wished for complete and total isolation from the world, so that no one could ever threaten him, or his family, or their possessions, ever again. In response, the spell ripped the castle and the surrounding estate from the surface of Toril and sent it into orbit around the Sun, along with Omar, who was transformed into an immortal stone giant armed with a powerful enchanted club. The spell also donated all of the family's possessions to charity (except for a chair and a few dozen geese) and inserted Omar's family into the Dark Moon, a powerful organization of assassins that operated throughout the Moonshaes. And to ensure that Omar could never return to Toril, the spell destroyed the ring's last remaining wish.

The coastal region of Oman where the estate used to be was filled in by the ocean, becoming a small bay known as Iron Keep Bay.
