Color Spray Nebula

Description

The Color Spray Nebula is a huge multicolored cloud about 2 million miles (3.2 million kilometers) long, 1 million miles (1.6 million kilometers) wide at one end, and 100 feet (30 meters) wide at the opposite end. It orbited around the Sun in a very slow orbit, taking over 4,000 months to complete a full revolution. The nebula shared its orbit with the Galleon Nebula, but in the opposite position, so the two are never visible from Toril at the same time.

When a spelljamming vessel enters the nebula, the ship's crew will feel a slight tingling sensation, which is a side effect of the nebula's healing properties. A creature entering the nebula is immediately cured of any diseases. However, there is a small (but cumulative) chance that they will also contract a deadly and incurable cancer, that can only be removed by powerful magic such as a wish spell.

Sometimes, the nebula will also drain protective magical items, and appeared to be particularly inimical to abjuration effects. Items such as armor, rings and cloaks of protection were all at risk of having their magic properties weakened or drained away entirely by the nebula.

Rumors

The followers of Mystra believed the Color Spray Nebula was a sign from their goddess that she was pleased by their use of magic. However, the followers of Bane believed instead that the nebula was a sign of his wrath, speeding across the heavens and annihilating everything in its path.

According to rumor, the Tenth Pit maintained a hidden base somewhere deep within the Color Spray Nebula, as they were believed to be working in conjunction with agents of the Zhentarim of Toril.
