Dairn

"The first mate always told me to aim for the weapons or the crew, but I don't think he ever used a ballista or a catapult. You're lucky if you can hit an enemy on their broadside with these things."
- Dairn of the Emerald Brotherhood Company
Overview
Dairn was a member of the Emerald Brotherhood company of adventurers and served onboard the vipership, Tyr's Strike, under the command of the paladin Gehrm.
Description
Dairn was a male gray elf with long white hair that hung loosely over his robes. He was in the habit of singing cheerfully to himself, except in the midst of battle, when his concentration became razor sharp. Dairn shared his companion Thya's great hatred of the neogi due to their harsh treatment at the claws of the despicable spider-like slavers.
Possessions
Dairn always wore a pair of bracers of defence, and possessed an enchanted short bow, a wand of fire and a wand of frost.
Activities
While the Emerald Brotherhood focussed most of their attention on Realmspace, they were willing to hire out their services to others and had worked in a number of other spheres. Dairn in particular was known to have served as a guard on the Asteroid Queen, a system ship that transported cargo from world to world. He had also served as a heavy weapons handler, and had worked alongside a crewman named Ferrin whose hand had been torn off by an accelerator.
Relationships
Friends / Family
While Dairn considered his adventuring companions to be family, he preferred spending time with Thya and his younger half-brother, Zadfraq.
Crew
Dairn served as the ship's mage onboard the vipership, Tyr's Strike, under the command of the paladin Gehrm. The rest of the crew included his half-brother Zadfraq, their companion Thya, and the priestess Kalia, who served as primary helmsman.
History
Dairn was originally from the Forest of Tethir on Toril, before joining the Emerald Brotherhood to protect the forest of Thornwood and its druids from an invading tribe of gnolls. The Company went on to achieve great fame as lycanthrope-hunters in the lands east and south of Amn and Tethyr.
They were later hired by a local king in the Vilhon Reach area to hunt down and kill three evil dragons that were thought to be lurking along the Deepwash. However, while they were exploring the Snowflake Mountains, they were captured by illithid slavers and taken into wildspace on their ship, the Mind Ripper.
Having been sold to the neogi, the Company eventually escaped their cruel captors, and would go on to destroy a major neogi slavery operation. Dairn and Thya had both suffered at the claws of the spider-creatures and would harbor a great deal of hatred towards them for the rest of their lives. The Company subsequently purchased their iconic vipership, Tyr's Strike, from an arcane merchant who had also been held captive by the neogi before being freed by the adventurers.
The Emerald Brotherhood set their sights on destroying both the mind flayers and the neogi, and after some fourteen months, slavers throughout Realmspace had learned to fear them - especially the neogi. The neogi responded by placing a bounty of 50,000 gold pieces on their heads.
