Gauntlet, The

Overview

The Gauntlet was an adventuring company dedicated to the eradication of all slavery in Realmspace. As a self proclaimed law-enforcement company, they patrolled the Tears of Selûne, on the lookout for those that preyed on passing spelljamming vessels, particularly the illithid and the neogi. However, they had yet to face the marauder known as the Batship, as it appeared to be doing everything it could to avoid them.

Unknown, but presumed to be somewhere in the Tears of Selûne.

The Gauntlet patrolled wildspace in their modified scorpionship, known as the Gauntlet.

Members

The Gauntlet was led by the paladin Kyriel Pellinore, with the assistance of three powerful mages named Cambrigha, Savion with the Eleven Fingers, and Vom of the Protectorate, who all served as helmsmen onboard the Gauntlet. The company also included three experienced priests; Liasa, a priest of Lliira, Sunea, a priestess of Sune, and Kierie, a priest of Lathander. The rest of the crew was made up of their apprentices, including Alekra, Ansalok, Chare, Nogard, Sarden the Courser, Sharondel and Vicales, who did most of the actual sailing and general maintenance on the ship.

With so many people cooped-up in such a small space for extended periods of time, it was perhaps inevitable that tensions would occasionally run high. While Kyriel and his squire, Ansalok, generally kept out of any petty quarrels, the mages argued constantly over who's particular discipline or school was superior to the others. The priests on the other hand, were overly polite to each other in an effort not to cause offence, which drove the mages crazy. However, when they faced an enemy in battle, the members of the Gauntlet closed ranks and fought together as a well oiled machine.

History

The Gauntlet was formed nearly seven years ago, when Kyriel Pellinore met the other founding members while he was looking for an Arcane merchant to purchase a ship to aid him in his search for his family who had been abducted by spacefaring illithid slavers. The Gauntlet became famous throughout Realmspace when they destroyed a large neogi slaving operation based on an asteroid in the Tears of Selûne. The neogi were dealing in umber hulk slaves, as well as humanoid slaves supplied by their illithid partners. Attacking from above in their modified scorpionship Gauntlet, the company destroyed all the surface buildings and killed nearly all the neogi and illithid present.

The surviving neogi and mind flayers who managed to escape reported what had happened to their colleagues and their respective superiors. As a result, a bounty of over 100,000 gp was offered to whoever destroyed the company. In addition, the neogi established several smaller trading outposts throughout the Tears in an effort to minimize losses from a single raid, and substantially improved their security.
