Overview
Hlal enjoys sharing stories and songs with those who appreciate such things, regardless of their race or background. She has little use for tyrants, and even less patience for cruelty or bullying. She teaches that in order to be able to express yourself freely, you must be free of all restraints.
Description
Hlal appears as a sleek, copper-coloured dragon with a ready grin and a happy gleam in her eyes.
Holy symbol
Hlal's symbol is a single flame or an open book.
Favored weapon
Hlal relies on the natural weapons of her chosen draconic form in battle. Her non-draconic priests can select either the spear or the short sword as their favored weapon.
Realm
World Tree cosmology
In the World Tree cosmology of Realmspace, Hlal resides upon the lower reaches of the outer planar realm known as Dragon Eyrie, which she shares with other members of the Draconic pantheon, including Null, Task, and Tiamat. Dragon Eyrie is an enormous mountaintop surrounded by wispy clouds and topped by an eternal cap of snow. No cities or villages mar the perfect crags of the mountaintop, though some non-draconic visitors who come here in search of solitude have built small shelters to live in. Hlal's divine realm lies on the lower reaches of the great Eyrie, where it is warm and dry. Copper and brass dragon petitioners congregate close to her realm, though it attracts blue dragon petitioners as well, who tend to stay far away from the copper and brass dragons.
Great Wheel cosmology
In the Great Wheel cosmology, Hlal lairs somewhere on the Olympian Glades of Arborea.
Worship
Priests of Hlal use music, poetry and tall tales to spread their faith, and use simple shrines which can be packed up and moved at a moments notice. Her worshippers believe that she presides over the first performance of a new piece of entertainment, and will often dedicate the first performance of a new work to Hlal's glory (if serious) or for Hlal's amusement (if comic).
In Spelljammer
Hlal is a member of the Draconic pantheon and as such is considered native to Realmspace.
