Overview
The King-Killer Star is a reddish cometary body that orbits the Sun and periodically appears in the skies of Toril. In localized regions, the King-Killer Star is visible every few decades, while every few hundred years it is visible across the continent of Faerûn. The King-Killer Star is linked to the Dracorage mythal, and its appearances in the skies of Toril causes dragons to go mad with rage, destroying and killing without reason.
History
Millennia ago, during the Time of Dragons on the world of Toril, the High mages of the Fair Folk created what became known as the Dracorage mythal and tied it to the periodic appearance of the King-Killer Star in the skies of Toril. The Dracorage mythal caused all dragon and dragon-blooded creatures to slowly become more agitated and reckless, eventually becoming little more than raging beasts.
During the last years of the Reign of Dragons, an attempt was made by dragonkind to destroy the King-Killer Star. However, when they fired their magical super-weapon, it missed the King-Killer Star completely, and instead nicked the moon, Selûne, creating the Tears of Selûne.
