Overview

Lliira is a much-beloved goddess of contentment, release, joy, happiness, dance, and freedom. As the patron of festivals, she is honored at any celebration, and dance is the primary way to worship her. She abhors violence, and any fighting or drawing of weapons (except in ceremony) at a celebration will cause her to withhold her favor. Somewhat detached from the realities of everyday life, Lliira speaks to her most devoted followers in dreams, espousing the tenets of her philosophy, known as the Elysian Rigadoon, which places joyful movement above all other concerns.

Description

Lliira initially appears as brightly whirling lights and smoke, out of which dances a young sensuous woman with pure blue eyes and long golden hair (sometimes her hair features streaks of silver or, more unusually, pastel colours of blue, pink, green or lilac). Dancing on air, this shapely, 9 foot (2.7 meters) tall woman revels in the joy of movement. She wears a tight-fitting body suit under a series of gauzy robes that twirl and drape artfully as she moves. As she dances, she trails a wake of twinkling lights which mark the last 60 feet (18 meters) of her movement (longer if she desires).

Holy symbol

Lliira's symbol consists of three six-pointed stars arranged in a triangle with their points touching, coloured orange, yellow and red.

Favored Weapon

Lliira does not engage in physical combat: instead, before fading away, she dances, leaving a wake of sparkling lights imbued with various magical effects (some of them destructive) that she has keyed to affect specific individuals. Her priesthood have selected the shuriken as their favored weapon.

Realm

World Tree cosmology

In the World Tree cosmology of Realmspace, Lliira resides within her realm, known as the Quarter of the Orange Lanterns, which forms part of the outer plane known as Brightwater, which she shares with her fellow deities, Sharess, Sune, Tymora, and Waukeen. Brightwater is a well-settled realm devoted to joy, good fortune and beauty, and is filled with quaint cottages and elegant manors. The Quarter of the Orange Lanterns is a realm of continuous celebration where life is like one long festival. In the Quarter, feasts, music, drinking, dancing and general carousing are unceasing. During the day, the inhabitants picnic on the wide lawns or dance in the great halls that line the streets. At night, the Quarter blossoms into a loud carnival packed with musicians, dancers and revelers.

Great Wheel cosmology

In the Great Wheel cosmology, Lliira resides within her realm, known as Brightwater, which is located on Arvandor (also known as Olympus), the first layer of the Olympian Glades of Arborea. Brightwater is a realm of excitement, where almost any diversion imaginable can be found, and which she shares with Sune, goddess of beauty and love, and Tymora, goddess of good fortune.

Worship

Lliira's priests and priestesses, known as joybringers, range from inattentive flirts to deviant hedonists. All make it their mission to make other people happy, even if just for a moment. Good hearted and inveterate revelers they may be, but Lliira's followers aren't frivolous. To them, divine joy is a very real gift to the world of mortals, and one much needed. To that end, they fight those who would bring misery to others. They are fierce against their foes, and joyous revelers when their work is done.

In Spelljammer

Lliira is a member of the Faerûnian pantheon and as such is considered native to Realmspace. Priests of Lliira are unable to cast any spells in the phlogiston, and if they leave Realmspace, will be unable to recover any mid-to-high level spells until they return.
