Description

A masthead of durability is a small silver representation of a "mast step", a wooden box-like structure used to support or mount a mast to a deck or keel.

Powers

To activate a masthead of durability, it has to be physically bolted to the base of a mast. The masthead renders the mast completely indestructible, and immune to all types of damage, except fire. If an opposing ship attempts to shear the mast off by flying over it, the mast actually tears into the attacking ship's hull, inflicting 1d2 hull points for every 10 tons of the attacking ship (i.e. if a 40-ton ship attempted a shearing attack, it would be dealt 4d2 points of hull damage instead). If the mast was subjected to fire damage, it has the same chances as a normal mast of catching fire and burning. The masthead still functions, but is useless until the burned mast is replaced with a new one.
