Overview
Mystra is the goddess of the essential force that makes all spellcasting possible. She provides for and tends the Weave, the conduit through which mortal spellcasters and magical crafters can safely access the raw force of magic. Though she is good-hearted she has learned that, as the deity of magic, she must preserve the Balance. While she can prevent the creation of new spells and magic items that offend her personal morals and ethos, she rarely enforces her will unless they threaten the Weave or magic or general.
Description
Mystra appears as a beautiful human woman, with dark, flowing hair and radiant skin. She wears simple, yet elegant, dark coloured robes of the finest silk, and a jeweled web-like clasp, symbolising the Weave.
Holy symbol
Mystra's symbol is a circle of seven blue-white stars, or a circle of nine stars with red mist flowing from its center, or a single blue-white star (the oldest symbol).
Celestial symbol
Mystra is associated with the constellation Lady of Mystery.
Favored weapon
Mystra wields a number of shuriken known as the Seven Whirling Stars.
Realm
World Tree cosmology
In the World Tree cosmology of Realmspace, Mystra resides within her planar realm, known as Dweomorheart, which is located on the outer plane of the same name, which she shares with her subordinate deities Azuth, Patron of Mages; Savras, Lord of Divination; and Velsharoon, the Vaunted.
Great Wheel cosmology
In the Great Wheel cosmology, Mystra resides within her planar realm, known as Dweomorheart, which is located on Eronia, the second layer of the Blessed Fields of Elysium. Set on a high plateau, Dweomorheart is a glittering city built from pure magical energy. The city resembles a university or a school of magic, where practitioners of the Art come to seek knowledge of magic. Every morning at dawn, the city changes features as the magic used in its construction reshapes itself.
Worship
Mystra is venerated by mages and by those who use magic or magical objects in their daily lives. She also receives the prayers of those who find magic wondrous or encounter magic they fear. The faith of Mystra is pervasive in FaerOn, which is to be expected for a land as touched by magic as it is . Her worshipers include those who use magic or work closely with it, such as alchemists and sages. The blue-clad priests of Mystran temples count wizards and sorcerers among their numbers , as well as the occasional bard. The goal of Mystra's faithful is simple: that magic be preserved and promulgated throughout the Realms. It isn't unusual for her followers to keep an eye out for those who demonstrate high potential for using magic and help arrange for such persons to find tutelage with a suitable mentor.
In Spelljammer
Mystra is a member of the Faerûnian pantheon and as such is considered a native deity of Realmspace. Priests of Mystra who leave the crystal sphere are only able to recover mid-to-high level spells when they return to Realmspace.
