Overview

Torm is the god of duty and loyalty, and is the patron of paladins and all who are willing to face danger in the name of the greater good. The most humble of deities, Torm exists to serve the common good and the rule of law as determined by honorable and just rulers. Stern, righteous and unyielding in the face of evil, Torm is kind and gentle when interacting with his friends, the weak, the defenceless and the young.

Description

Torm typically appears as an armoured warrior resembling his original mortal form; either as a handsome, young man with incredible personal magnetism, self confidence, and quiet enthusiasm; or as an older man with grey-white hair, stoic and calm, having faced innumerable foes without breaking. No matter his form, Torm always exudes a sense of courage and calm in the most dire of circumstances. In battle, Torm often assumes the form of a 12 foot (3.7 meter) tall lion-headed man, wearing ancient full plate armour (either golden or stained a dusky purple).

Holy symbol

Torm's symbol is a white or metal coloured right-hand gauntlet held upright with the palm forward, or a silver shield bearing the open-handed gauntlet device with three black arrows embedded in the shield.

Favored weapon

Torm typically wields a greatsword known as Duty's Bond, which has the powers of a holy avenger and a sun blade.

Realm

World Tree cosmology

In the World Tree cosmology of Realmspace, Torm resides within his realm, known as Trueheart, which is located on the outer plane known as the House of the Triad, which he shares with his superior Tyr, and other deities, including Helm, god of guardians, and Ilmater, god of the oppressed.

Great Wheel cosmology

In the Great Wheel cosmology, Torm resides within his realm, known as Trueheart, which is located on Mercuria, the Golden Heaven, which is the second of the Seven Heavens of Mount Celestia.

Torm's palace lies at the center of his realm. It resembles a military fortress, with walls made of mithral, battlements made of diamond, and gates made of adamantite. At the heart of this fortress lies the Lonely Citadel, an enormous single-turreted tower that used to crown a lonely spire in the remote Ice Mountains of northern Faerûn. Hosts of archons and angels reside within the fortress, serving the causes of law and good at Torm's command.

Worship

Worshippers of Torm believe that one's salvation can be found through service, that every failure to perform one's duty diminishes Torm, and that every success adds to his luster. Those who take Torm to heart must strive to fulfill his commandment to go out into the world and be an active force for good, to right wrongs, and to help the hopeless. They must strive to maintain peace and order while opposing unjust laws.

Followers of Torm stand ever alert against corruption and are expected to strike quickly and hard against any evidence of rot in the hearts of mortals. As the sword arm of justice, Torm's faithful are expected to bring quick deaths to betrayers . Considering these tenets, it should be no surprise that most human paladins have Torm as their patron. Most temples dedicated to Torm are fortresses built on heights. These structures offer austere quarters for residents and visiting knights, drilling grounds, and stables. White granite, lion statues, and armored figures predominate in the architecture, with the coats of arms of fallen heroes decorating the walls of the great halls.

In Spelljammer

Torm is a member of the Faerûnian pantheon and as such is considered native to Realmspace. He is believed to be responsible, in some way, for the existence of the Wanderers. Priests of Torm are unable to recover any spells once they leave the crystal sphere, and may only pray for spells once they return to Realmspace.
