Overview
Waukeen is the goddess of wealth and trade. She loves wealth, not for its own sake, but for what can be done, or acquired with it. She enjoys bargaining, and the hustle and bustle of a marketplace. She rules over deals done, above as well as below the table; legitimate as well as black-market commerce. She is interested in innovation, but can be stubborn and persistent, which can get her into trouble.
Description
Waukeen appears as a young, beautiful, slim woman whose hair is long, luxuriant and the hue of spun gold. Her eyes are two golden orbs, and she wears a gown made of strips of precious metals studded with a large variety of gem stones, a cloak of linked gold coins, a sash of cloth-of-gold, and gold-soled boots of linked and laced pearls.
Holy symbol
Waukeen's symbol is an upright gold coin with Waukeen's profile facing left.
Favored weapon
Waukeen can spray a stream of gold coins from her hands, either as a gift or as a weapon. She can also summon a roaring column of flame, similar to a flame strike, wrapped around with a swirling helix of gold coins, or she can spit a ball of molten gold 6 feet (1.82 meters). Her priesthood have selected the nunchaku as their favored weapon.
Realm
World Tree cosmology
In the World Tree cosmology of Realmspace, Waukeen resides within her realm, known as the Marketplace Eternal, which forms part of the outer planar realm known as Brightwater, which she shares with her fellow deities, Sune, Lliira, Sharess, and Tymora. Brightwater is a well-settled realm devoted to joy, good fortune and beauty, and is filled with quaint cottages and elegant manors. The Marketplace Eternal lies at the center of Brightwater, and is the only district dedicated to businesses other than pleasure. Devoted as it is to commercial enterprise, the streets of the Marketplace are packed, day and night, with a clamoring throng of buyers and sellers, and is a place where commerce is an intoxicating pleasure in its own right.
Great Wheel cosmology
In the Great Wheel cosmology, Waukeen resides within her realm, known as the House of Barter, which forms part of the shared outer planar realm known as the Marketplace Eternal, which is located on the Concordant Domain of the Outlands. Waukeen joined forces with similarly-minded deities from other pantheons, and together they established their shared realm commonly known as the Marketplace Eternal on the Outlands. She currently shares this realm with Sera of Aebrynis, Shinare of Krynn, and Zilchus of Oerth. Due to the central location of the Outlands, many planar merchants and planeswalkers find the Marketplace Eternal to be a convenient stop on their trade routes across the planes, and the Marketplace has even begun to compete with Tradegate as the premier commercial hub on the Outlands.
The Marketplace Eternal is nothing more than a huge bazaar that stretches for miles in every direction. Impromptu tents and market stalls are set up wherever the merchants please, and are only loosely organised by speciality, if that. The market stalls compete for space with gambling halls, drinking establishments and hucksters of all sorts which are all set up indiscriminately. The Marketplace is a place of splendour, but is also very, very confusing.
The Marketplace is divided into four separate quarters: one for each of the various deities involved. Waukeens quarter is known as the House of Barter, Shinare's quarter is known as the Scales of Wealth, Zilchus's quarter is known as the Seat of Luxury, and Sera's quarter is known as the House of Resolve.
Worship
Waukeen's most ardent worshipers include shopkeepers, members of trading costers, wealthy merchants, caravan guides, itinerant peddlers, moneychangers, and smugglers. She is interested in anything that increases trade and the flow of money, whether new trade routes, new inventions, or the whim of changing fashion. Waukeen's clergy travel the world, aiding merchants, or establishing temples in large cities which act as moneylenders and changing houses, secure storage facilities, and covert fences for stolen goods. Waukeen's priests are willing to invest in any enterprise that has a reasonable chance of succeeding if operated by devout worshipper's of the goddess, and will consider other investment opportunities if offered a substantial donation for the church's coffers.
In Spelljammer
Waukeen is a member of the Faerûnian pantheon and as such is considered native to Realmspace. Priests of Waukeen retain access to all their spells no matter where they travel in wildspace. However, in the phlogiston they cannot replenish their spells until they enter a crystal sphere.
