Located on the coast of the Gulf of Praxeda, the city is one of the major political and commercial centers of the North. It is described as having considerable breakwaters forward the sea, over which the high walls and stocky roundels of the fortress guarding the entrance to the city.

In a distant future marked by the phenomenon known as the White Frost, the world's climate changes radically. The ports of the Gulf of Praxeda freeze every winter, except for Pont Vanis, whose port remains navigable.

A significant part of the city its trade involving wood imported from Malleore. The House of Creigiau, established at Creigiau Castle, derives its wealth from exporting wood to Kovir and Poviss. For the wealthy merchants of Pont Vanis and Lan Exeter, it is often cheaper to import this wood than to employ local lumberjacks. The city also hosts a significant branch of the Vivaldi Bank, which oversees the region's banking activities.

  • While an in-game book, The Wonders of Zerrikania, mentions this city as having an ice palace with stained-frost windows, it's debatable if this is accurate or exaggerated given the rest of the book's description of other wonders that aren't realistic (such as the tops of trees that disappear into the clouds).
  • If one romances Triss Merigold in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, she'll acquire a home in this city as a result of her position as King Tankred Thyssen's advisor.
