While the Battle Gate faces the world, the Gate House is the massive, multi-layered complex that sits immediately behind it. It is an architectural masterpiece of 'defense in depth', designed to ensure that even if the outer doors are breached, the Citadel remains an impregnable island. This is the primary security 'airlock' for the Grand Citadel. Every wagon, soldier, and visitor passing through the Battle Gate must halt here for a secondary, much more intrusive inspection. It houses the duty offices for the Citadel Elite and serves as the barracks for the rapid-response squads tasked with defending the western wall.
