Located between the austere St. Cuthbert's Gate and the prestigious Duke's Gate, the Garden Gate is a high-status exit designed for aesthetics as much as defense. It leads out toward the private villas and pleasure gardens that dot the rolling hills north of the city. This gate handles the 'luxury' overland traffic of the city. It is the primary thoroughfare for fine carriages, wealthy merchants heading to their country manors, and the elite Pleasure Carts that bring fresh flowers, ice from the mountains, and exotic delicacies into the High and Garden Quarters. It serves as a more relaxed, scenic alternative to the military-heavy gates of the Citadel.
