The Arena is a colossal, open-air amphitheater built of weathered grey stone and reinforced with heavy iron grates. It is a tiered marvel of engineering, capable of seating thousands of spectators, from the common laborers of the Slums to the high-ranking officials in the shaded Oligarch's Box. This is the city's primary venue for gladiatorial combat, athletic competitions, and grand public spectacles. While 'blood sports' are the main draw, the Arena also hosts massive religious festivals, military parades, and the occasional Great Hunt, where exotic beasts brought from the Amedio Jungle or the Hellfurnaces are released into the sand-covered pit. Below the sands lies a labyrinth of 'holding cells' (the Ludus) for combatants and iron-barred menageries for monsters.
