The High Forest

According to legends, each of the natural races emerged from Chauntea 's womb at the Unicorn Run's source, and traveled down it to the outside world. Whether or not this was true is unclear. To elves , korreds , and halflings , the Unicorn Run was sacred to life and a site of purity. All three races placed taboos on extended trips up the river out of fear that if the river was fouled, no new races would ever be born on Toril again.

In fact, the center of the mountains contained an elevated valley that was hidden away from the surrounding world.

Tall Trees was a northeastern section of the High Forest in northwest Faerûn. It was believed to contain the oldest trees in the High Forest.

Nordahaeril was an elf settlement in the High Forest in northwest Faerûn by the 14th century DR .

The Citadel of the Mists was located in a secluded part of the northern edge of the High Forest. It was built on top of an ancient elven armory, which was connected to the Trail of Mists .

Shadowtop Cathedral was a stand of tall shadowtop trees in the High Forest and an important meeting place for the Emerald Enclave after 1485 DR .

At the heart of Stone Stand stood a tall oak tree. It was encircled by two cairn rings, which were each surmounted by a ring of menhirs . Each menhir was evenly spaced out 10 ft (3 m) apart and capped by lintel pieces that linked the cairn rings together into two unbroken rings.

These mountains, full of forests, dominated the north-western area of the High Forest. The Dessarin River originated from these mountain peaks. And they were located roughly 500 miles (800 kilometers) northeast of Waterdeep .

Nar Kerymhoarth the Sleeping Citadel was an underground fortress known by most as the Nameless Dungeon.

It found its source on the north face of the Star Mounts and wound its way east and south through the Dire Wood .

Olostin's Hold was a fortified keep lying between Everlund and Yartar just off the Evermoor Way , in the northwest edges of the High Forest .

The Endless Caverns were a series of deep-reaching cavern and tunnel complexes located to the south of the Star Mounts . Inside the Endless Caverns lived many powerful and dangerous creatures, such as Grimnoshtasdrano , the Riddling Dragon , and the lich Aumvor The Undying .
