Von Musel family

The von Musel family was a noble family from Wildemount that for a time lived in the city-state of Whitestone.

History

This family had ties with the de Rolo family that left Port Damali and founded Whitestone in 612 PD. The relationship between both families became closer at some point before 700 PD, and a relative of the de Rolo family married a von Musel, having a daughter together, Melanie, who grew up in Wildemount.

When Melanie grew up, a marriage was arranged between her and her cousin Wolfe de Rolo, so she moved to Tal'Dorei, and the couple became the Lord and Lady of Whitestone. However, due to their loveless marriage, she started in the back of Whitestone Castle a garden of poisonous plants in around the 730s PD, causing with them the early demise of her husband (due to a combination of his weakened health and the injuries caused by the Great Whitestone Fire), and taking over the city herself.

Her first project was to expand Whitestone through the Parchwood Timberlands, but several problems started to appear (animal attacks, phantoms and visions (some said Lord Wolfe's ghost appeared at some point), so Melanie sought the help of her cousin, Ivan von Musel, a cleric of the Lawbearer who had been in Whitestone for a year.

He explained that the Lawbearer, as the goddess of civilization, was displeased by the dowager Lady de Rolo doing such a project without showing her due respect. Ivan, after some meditation, went outside of the city, where a strange fog had appeared, and there his goddess tested him with a grey dire wolf that the cleric managed to kill. Later he explained that, according to a vision sent by the Lawbearer, Whitestone would be able to expand until it reached the point where the von Musel had bested the dire wolf. Lady Melanie, who wanted her cousin to stay in the city instead of returning to Wildemount, created the Third House of Whitestone and gave him the title of Grand Master of the Grey Hunt, with the responsibility of managing the city's relationship with the world beyond its walls. and taking over the city herself.

The Third House and its functions survived despite Melanie's eventual removal from power (due to suspected witchcraft and raising of the undead), and at some point before 805 PD the de Rolo family regained control over the Third House and its title. By then the von Musel family had maintained a connection with the de Rolo family, and it had been reflected when Frederick de Rolo married Johanna von Musel. Together they ruled Whitestone and had seven children together, with at least two of them (Percy and Cassandra) bearing their mother's last name, as well as the Klossowski and de Rolo, as a way of appeasing distant relatives demanding recognition.

In Whitestone their legacy survives through their de Rolo relatives who still give the von Musel name to some of their children.
