Diarchy of Uthodurn

The Diarchy of Uthodurn refers to the shared dwarven and elven leadership of the city of Uthodurn.

History

Following the blight that destroyed Molaesmyr, some of the surviving elves went northeast, nearly dying in the Flotket Alps before reaching Uthodurn, then a primarily dwarven city. The dwarves of Uthodurn quickly accepted the refugees. However, after the corruption of the Savalirwood did not recede, and a few years of uneasy culture clash, Queen Judessa Fruunast reached out to the throneless king of the survivors of Molaesmyr, Imathan Talviel, and proposed a dual monarchy to rule the city. After lengthy discussion regarding the many considerations and changes needed, and with feedback from both the dwarven and elven populations, the diarchy was installed. The two monarchs ruled jointly for roughly two centuries. Following the death of Judessa Fruunast in 794 PD, her daughter Simone Fruunast assumed the dwarven throne.

As of 835 PD, the cooperation of the Diarchy remains strong, if somewhat isolated from the rest of the continent. The primary concerns are expansion (Palebank Village being the first successful example), since the remote mountain city of Uthodurn needs resources to support the population; and stopping the slowly encroaching corruption that destroyed Molaesmyr. Uthodurn's leadership is also, like many of the societies of Wildemount, interested in the potential of Eiselcross.

During the apogee solstice of 843 PD, after Bells Hells saved Uthodurn from Umudara, the dual monarchs named them "Protectors of the Diarchy". Less than a month later, the two rulers attended a meeting in the Platinum Sanctuary of Vasselheim along with many other influential figures to discuss the invasion of the Hellcatch Valley by inhabitants of Ruidus through the Bloody Bridge created by Ludinus Da'leth's Malleus Key.

• Queen Simone Fruunast, daughter of Judessa and current dwarven queen.
• King Imathan Talviel, priest of Corellon, cofounder of the Diarchy, and elven king.
• Professor Gulrim Shalebrow, dwarven explorer and one of the founders of Syrinlya, being appointed to run it by Queen Fruunast herself. He's seen as brazen and crazy, but he is focused on expanding Syrinlya and learn more about Eiselcross and its relics.
