Daved Hanlon was a hatchet-faced man with dark, unblinking eyes.

Catrelle Mosenain, an iron monger's daughter from Maerone, accused Hanlon of impregnating her, which he responded to by killing her and hiding her body in a well.
Activities
White Lion
Daved was one of Lord Gaebril's White Lions.
Hanlon was part of the rebels in Cairhien, but he and his White Lions were not trusted by their Tairen or Cairhienin counterparts.
Captain of the guard
Under Moghedien's orders, Hanlon reported to Mili Skane. She showed him the price of failure by killing Jaichim Carridin and torturing Falion Bhoda. She told him to become one of Elayne Trakand's men. Hanlon began working as a guard for Elayne under the alias Doilin Mellar. When she was attacked by three men, he fended them off, leading to a promotion to Captain of the Queen's bodyguard.
When Elayne became pregnant during a covert visitation with the Dragon Reborn, most everyone in Caemlyn speculated that Mellar was the father because of his position in her bodyguard. Elayne chose not to dispute the rumor, reasoning that the child of Mellar would be less of a target than Rand's child.
Hanlon lead a sortie out of Caemlyn against orders to help save and bring in a group of Lord Luan Norwelyn's men. This angered both Elayne and Birgitte Silverbow as Luan hadn't declared his support for Elayne yet. Hanlon was reprimanded in public for it, in turn incurring his wrath.
After his audience with Elayne, he went to meet with Mili, killing a "footpad" who was probably one of the six men sent by Elayne to follow him. When he arrived at Mili's place, he exchanged information with Falion as part of an agreement they had established. During his meeting, Mili ordered him to free the captive sul'dam and damane in the palace if possible and asked if he could shift guards away from the food warehouses to facilitate burning Caemlyn's them. He informed her that he could "maybe" do the former, but could not do the latter. He informed her that he had not become intimate with Elayne, but claimed he was closer to doing so than when he arrived.
He was with the mercenary captains when they demanded more gold from Elayne. Elayne sent him on to his duties, embarrassing him in front of the captains. After having him followed by Samwil Hark (the sixth man to do so and the first to survive), Elayne had Mellar arrested and questioned.
Escape from Caemlyn
Eldrith Jhondar and Temaile Kinderode broke into Chesmal Emry's cell while the latter was being questioned by Elayne disguised as one of the Forsaken. Elayne managed to shield all three Black Ajah but was stabbed by Mellar while making her escape. He made Chesmal Heal her, after which Elayne immolated her. Mellar managed to grab one of the copies of Matrim Cauthon's Foxhead medallion, making him impervious to Elayne's weaves. He slit Eldrith's throat and stabbed Temaile, stating "orders are orders." Elayne started tearing the ceiling down but he managed to escape with the copy of the medallion.
During the Last Battle
He and his group of mercenaries, disguised as refugees, ambushed Elayne and Birgitte. They killed most of the guard and Mellar, armed with his stolen copy of the foxhead medallion ter'angreal, killed Birgitte personally. They captured Elayne and tried to demoralize her troops by proclaiming her death. As Mellar was beginning to cut her children from her womb, he was killed by Birgitte, who was still bound as a Hero and returned when the Horn of Valere was sounded.
Viewing
Min Farshaw observed him in the rebel camp of Toram Riatin, Caraline Damodred, and Darlin Sisnera. She had a viewing, seeing him surrounded by "bruised hues so dark they seemed almost black." She said it indicated violence and that he would murder any in his way, and warned Caraline not to trust him. - fulfilled Hanlon is revealed to be a murderous Darkfriend.
