She has a detached nature, seldom showing any emotion at all.
She thinks about clothes as much as anything else, and her clothes are always neat and of a high quality.
Strength and Abilities
Ashmanaille has a strength in the One Power of 22(10) which is average for an Aes Sedai.
Although she is slightly weaker than the stated necessary strength of 19(7) to be able to Travel, Ashmanaille appears to be able to do so. She was sent via Gateway to obtain tribute from Kandor. Later, she was on gateway-making duty during the Last Battle. This may indicate an above average ability at the Talent. A less likely alternative explanation is that circles or angreal were used; it is not definitively indicated that Ashmanaille wove any Gateways unaided, but the description of the Kandori mission heavily implies she did.
She is strong in Earth and has sufficient ability to make cuendillar.
History
Ashmanaille is 98 years old. She was born in 902 NE and went to the White Tower in 918 NE at the age of 16. After eleven years as a novice and ten years as Accepted, she was raised to the shawl in 939 NE.
Activities
During the Aes Sedai schism, Ashmanaille sided with the Rebels.
Along with Elayne Trakand and Nynaeve al'Meara, she was part of a circle led by Anaiya Carel in the defense of the Salidar camp against the Bubble of evil that attacked there.
She was one of only nine Aes Sedai among the rebels able to make cuendillar due to her relatively high strength in Earth. She is, however, very slow at transforming iron into cuendillar, slower than Kairen Stang.
She and Phaedrine asked Beonin Marinye's advice about the murders of Anaiya and Kairen. The discussion yielded suspicions of a male channeler among the camp and advice to follow the connection of both sisters being Blue Ajah.
While collecting tributes for the Rebels in Kandor, Ashmanaille found out that Elaida a'Roihan's White Tower had learned how to Travel. She reported this back to the rebel Hall of the Tower.
During the Last Battle, she was on gateway-making duty, and recognized Min Farshaw when the latter asked for a gateway to the Seanchan army nearby. She probably knew her from the time before the White Tower Schism, as she addressed Min as "Elmindreda," the alias Min used while hiding in the White Tower under Siuan's orders.
