Morgul-waywraith-roadOsgiliath Road

The Morgul-road, also known as the Morgul-way, wraith-road, or Osgiliath Road, was the road that ran east and west through the Morgul Vale, and over the Morgul Pass in western Mordor. It began on the banks of the Anduin at Osgiliath, running through Ithilien and below the Pass of Cirith Ungol, before passing the fortress of Minas Morgul. In Ithilien, it crossed the Harad Road at the place known as the Cross-roads of the Fallen King.

History

The road was made by the Númenóreans of Gondor during the Second Age, presumably originally called the Osgiliath Road. During the War of the Ring, in the year TA 3019, Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee were led by Gollum along the road from the Cross-roads of the Fallen King to the Stairs of Cirith Ungol. By this time, at least part of the road glowed with an eerie luminescence, as observed by Frodo.
