Description

The Westfarthing was one of the four Farthings of the Shire. Its easternmost point was the Three-Farthing Stone and on its western border were the Far Downs (and later, from Fo.A. 31 on, the region of Westmarch). Within its bounds was the "capital" of the Shire, Michel Delving and the ancestral homeland of the Tooks (and thus the seat of the Thain), known as Tookland. Also, in the Westfarthing was Hobbiton, the home of Bilbo Baggins and his nephew, Frodo Baggins.

Rushock Bog

Rushock Bog was a swamp on The Water in the Westfarthing, south of Needlehole and to the north-west of Hobbiton.

Bywater Pool

The Bywater Pool was a pond located in the eastern corner of the Westfarthing in the Shire, just north of the town of Bywater. The main river of the Shire, the Water, flowed into its western end and exited its eastern end.

Hobbiton

Hobbiton was a village in the central regions of The Shire, within the borders of the Westfarthing.

Michel Delving

Michel Delving was the chief town of the Shire. It was located in the White Downs that lay within the Westfarthing on the East Road, perhaps south to its smaller counterpart, the Little Delving.

Overhill

Overhill was a small village in the Westfarthing, to the north of Hobbiton and The Hill, marking the end of the short road that ran past Bag End and Bagshot Row.

Waymeet

Waymeet or Waymoot was a town in the Westfarthing of the Shire. The East Road, the main road through the Shire, ran through the town on its way to Michel Delving.

Gamwich

Gamwich was a village in the Shire. It was the home town of Hamfast Gamwich (and the source of his chosen surname) and as such the origin of the Gamwich and the Gammidge (later Gamgee) families.

Underhill (Hobbiton)

Underhill was the part of Hobbiton that lay directly beneath Hobbiton Hill. Its most famous smial was within the Hill itself; Bag End.

Undertowers was a dwelling of Hobbits in the Westmarch during the Fourth Age. It was located near the White Towers.

The White Downs were a range of chalk downs in the Westfarthing of the Shire. Michel Delving, the chief town of the Shire, was located there.

Little Delving was a village of the Shire. It is situated to the north-east of the Westfarthing, perhaps north to its bigger counterpart, Michel Delving.

Greenholm

Greenholm was a town or village of the Hobbits on the Far Downs, which originally lay on the western borders of the Shire. It was the home of Fastred, who married Samwise Gamgee 's daughter Elanor, and with her founded the Fairbairn Family.

Needlehole

Needlehole was a town in the Westfarthing near the border of the Northfarthing in the Shire. The Water flowed through the town on its way south to Rushock Bog.

Tookbank was a small village in the Tookland, in the Westfarthing of the Shire, not far west of the larger township of Tuckborough.

Tuckborough was an old and important settlement in the Westfarthing of the Shire, nestled in the Green Hill Country. A road connected Tuckborough with the Yale and Stock (with the Causeway) to the east.
