Lyrengorn (from the Elvish lyren'gorn, for "mountain city") is a small elven city-state atop the Elvenpeaks in the Cliffkeep Mountains, in the northern reaches of Tal'Dorei. Although it appears frozen and lifeless from above, beneath the canopy is a warm, humid, tropical environment teeming with game and flowers. It has maintained its independence and its neutrality since the time of Warren Drassig.
History
Lyrengorn was settled by wood elves who chose to leave Syngorn. They traveled northward to the Elvenpeaks, a single two-peaked mountain south of the Neverfields, and made their home there. The society of Lyrengorn has since been welcoming to refugees and travelers, but uninterested in getting involved with the politics of the continent. Despite once being home to wyvern -riding warriors who were highly sought after as mercenaries, Lyrengorn has not participated in Tal'Dorei's various wars.
The leader of Lyrengorn's armed forces as of 836 PD was Skyblade Hali Instralidar, who had been surveying the Neverfields for centuries.
As of 843 PD, Lyrengorn had contact with the city-state of Whitestone. Lady Cassandra de Rolo was visiting it in Sydenstar.
That same year, after the apogee solstice, Bells Hells and Essek Thelyss tried to Teleport to Eiselcross, but the wizard's second attempt brought them to a snowy area near the Elvenpeaks from which they could see Lyrengorn. When Essek Thelyss recognized the area, he cast Teleport again, leaving Tal'Dorei with his group. A couple of days later, representatives from Lyrengorn were present at the second meeting Bells Hells attended in the Platinum Sanctuary of Vasselheim, and they joined their own forces to those of the Exandrian Accord, possibly including wyvern riders.
Moonweaver's Ribbons
Lyrengorn is known for its northern lights. Each year, travelers from across the continent trek to the city for the winter solstice to witness the wood elf skyswimmers — athletes who train in ceremonial wyvernback riding — pulling and shaping the " Moonweaver's Ribbons" behind them. The skyswimmers spear the lights and create images in the sky as part of a ritual headed by the high priestess of the moon to purify the city and to grant the worshipers long life.
Demographics
A group of dark elf refugees who fled from persecution elsewhere on the continent live among the wood elves in Lyrengorn. As of 812 PD, Lyrengorn was a small city with a population of 5,430. It was primarily made up of wood elves (85%), with smaller populations of high elves (10%), dark elves (3%), dwarves (1%) and humans (1%). As of 836 PD the total elven population had decreased (93%), while dwarves (3%), humans (2%) and other races (2% total) were more common than before.
