Menagerie Coast

The Menagerie Coast is the region of Wildemount situated west of the Cyrios Mountains and along the coast. The term is also used politically for the confederation of city-states on that southwestern coast of Wildemount and the Swavain Islands united under the Clovis Concord. The region thrives on open trade and cultural freedom. This confederation controls most of the long-distance imports and exports for the virtually land-locked Empire, as all maritime imports and exports must pass through the Coast's ports.

Swavain Islands

An archipelago southwest of the coast of Wildemount, the Swavain Islands are mostly controlled by the Clovis Concord out of the Menagerie Coast. Three key known exceptions to this generalization are:

  • Darktow Icon Darktow Isle: headquarters of The Revelry.
  • Urakhaxl Urukayxl: a jungle-covered isle, home to a ziggurat formerly dedicated to Uk'otoa and ruled by warring factions of lizard-men and serpent-folk.
  • Rumblecusp: an isolated, sparsely-populated volcanic island

Quoraska Jungle

The Quoraska Jungle is a dense forest located between Nicodranas and the Ashkeeper Peaks.

Coastal settlements

  • Nicodranas Icon Nicodranas: a major port city about half the size of Port Damali under the control of the Clovis Concord, with the exception of the Open Quay district owned by Yussa Errenis.
  • Damali Icon Port Damali: the largest and westernmost of the city-states a major hub of trade between all the western bits of civilization including Tal'Dorei, Marquet and Issylra.
    • Vashlow is a town near Port Damali in the coast, although its exact location and affiliation are currently unknown.
  • Zoon Icon Port Zoon: a coastal city northwest of Nicodranas.
  • Feolinn Icon a Feolinn: The wine city.
  • Gwardan IconGwardan: The elves of Gwardan originated from Marquet long ago.
  • Lichenvel: Small fishing village in the Vezdaweald a day's ride from Port Damali.
  • Othe Icon Othe: the smallest Clovis Concord city-state with unique plant life.
  • Tossoa Icon (s) Tussoa: a frontier city along the Tyodan River.

Although Xarzith Kitril appears in the "Wastes of Xhorhas " section of the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, Leylas Kryn referred to the city as "a crucial foothold in the Menagerie Coast" at some point after 836 PD.

Flora

  • Native type of pine tree with translucent leaves and pinecones, present in the area of Nicodranas

Culture

  • Merchants of import, such as those present for the Victory Pit tournament in Zadash, wore silks, billowing pants, and jewelry consisting of many finger chains attached to rings. The style shares a visual aesthetic to that of classical Europe.
  • Cities in the Menagerie Coast mint special gold coins called "galleys".

History

The Ki'Nau were the indigenous people of the Coast before the Marquesians came.

Chetney Pock O'Pea vacationed in a seaside town on the Menagerie Coast in the 600s PD, where he met Deanna, starting a passionate (if brief) relationship with her.

In 843 PD Scanlan Shorthalt and Dr. Dranzel's Spectacular Traveling Troupe were on the Menagerie Coast as part of a tour the bard organized because of his third mid-life crisis.

Copia Wildwood
The Copia Wildwood is a forest located within the Cyrios Valley, north of Tussoa, and a source of timber for the Menagerie Coast.

Doralle Woods
The Doralle Woods is located at the southern base of the northwest Cyrios Mountains, north of Gwardan. A clear-watered lake is located in the northern part of the forest, and a river flows from this lake into the Lucidian Ocean.

Hearthstar Peaks
The Hearthstar Peaks are a group of extremely tall mountains that are visible from the Lucidian Ocean as one approaches Port Damali.

Othemoor
The Othemoor is an ancient, primal wetland. While it is humid and generally considered unpleasant, it is famous for its mineral-rich mud and for the many roots and other plants with medicinal properties, notably theki root, muroosa, olisuba, and willowshade.

Sepesca
Built over a fertile grove said to be where Melora's blood spilled prior to the Divergence, Sepesca was the holiest burial site for the Ki'Nau. All of their priests and royalty were buried in the stone temple, named for the Naush word for "Nature's End".

Tyodan River
The Tyodan River is a river that runs in the northeastern region of the Menagerie Coast, running through the Cyrios Mountains into the Lucidian Ocean. It runs through the Copia Lake and past two Concordian city-states: Tussoa further inland and Port Damali at its mouth.

Clovis Concord
Each Menagerie Coast city is ruled individually by a marquis who runs the merchant guilds of the city. The marquis of the cities work together to maintain consistent rule of law between all the cities.

Dolithil Mine
The Dolithil Mine sits northeast of the city of Gwardan. The Dolithil Orekeepers Guild, based in Gwardan, owns and runs the mine.

The Plumgroves are known for both the diversity and number of fruits in this small woodland near Feolinn. They are also full of public trails which are frequently used by those visiting.

Reefs of the Menagerie Coast
The reefs of the Menagerie Coast are a major geographic feature of the Lucidian Ocean off the southwestern coast of Wildemount and around the Swavain Islands. There are six notable reefs: Deep Row, Dragshallow, Inkclaw, Mother's Sigh, Torrid, and Southern Gate.

Copia Lake
Copia Lake is located within the Copia Wildwood, within the Cyrios Mountains, north of Tussoa. The lake is sacred to the Ki'Nau people, the warriors and priests of whom would bathe in the pool to purify themselves.

Prior to the Calamity, it was an untouched woodland on a mountain plateau that was home to a group of Sehanine -worshipping elves who used illusions to protect the grove from outsiders.

The Lushgut Forest is an extensive woodland area on the west coast of Wildemount. It stretches north of the settled portions of the Menagerie Coast, and fills in all the low-lying territory between the Cyrios Mountains and the sea.

The Gilded Roadway is a well-traveled highway but too long to be constantly patrolled. However, small groups of Zhelezo move from city to city, which gives travelers at least the illusion of security.

The Quoraska Jungle is a dense, dangerous jungle near Nicodranas. It is home to carnivorous plants and dangerous (sometimes venemous) creatures, as well as isolated communities of tabaxi and Ki'Nau people.
