History
The Maelstrom Kingdom was established at some point before the 7th century of the Era of Reclamation. In the year 603 PD the Coral Accord of the Vesrahn Banner, bound on the blood of Uvenda, Heart of the Tides, established diplomatic connections between the Water Ashari and Testaregnu, although both parts were careful about their interactions.
During the Apogee Solstice of 843 PD, an undersea prison was disturbed, and released a form of corruption known as the "Silt" that reached Testaregnu, taking control of its ruler and some of the people, and making them want to expand its influence.
Months later, during a meeting between water genasi of the Bay of Gifts and the air genasi of the Silken Squall, the forces of Testaregnu attacked the shore with aquatic magic and sea beasts, and kidnapped several people, including Nephele Wyvernwind, co-ruler of the Silken Squall. Her son, Dorian Storm, travelled with Bells Hells to Testaregnu, bringing the diplomatic support of the Ashari with him, and convinced the guards of the city of letting them in, being brought to the palace to meet the Empress and her Chancellor. Although at first Thranatu was somewhat polite, explaining the Silt was a concern for her people and that they wanted people with "open mind" to help them, she ended up testing the adventuring party forcing them to face a Silt-corrupted kraken. After killing both the monster and the Chancellor, the Empress was freed from the Silt corruption, being hopeful about her subjects being freed as well, although warning Bells Hells about the Silt not being limited to her own settlement; the merfolk of the kingdom were happy and thankful, freeing the people they had kidnapped and allowing them to return to the surface.
