The Pass of Anach was a mountain pass in northern Beleriand.
It lay between the eastern part of the Echoriad along the high walls of Crissaegrim and the western part of the Ered Gorgoroth above the high springs of Mindeb to the north. It led into Dorthonion.
History
After the Nírnaeth Arnoediad, when Morgoth had become a very powerful threat and Dorthonion was known as Taur-nu-Fuin, the surrounding area had become dangerous and the pass was used by enemy forces to attack the rest of Beleriand. Morgoth was able to approximate the hidden location of Gondolin as being between Anach and the upper waters of the Sirion, due to the cries of Húrin.
Etymology
Anach was a Sindarin word.
