Tol Sirion was the island on the upper reaches of the River Sirion in the middle of the Pass of Sirion, between the Ered Wethrin and Dorthonion.

There Finrod Felagund built the tower of Minas Tirith on this strategic position, as the guarded Pass connected Ard-galen and West Beleriand. It was renamed Tol-in-Gaurhoth (Isle of the Werewolves) after its capture by Sauron. It was called Wizard's Isle in the Lay of Leithian.

The loss of Tol Sirion allowed Orcs to invade West Beleriand and harass Talath Dirnen and Nargothrond.

Minas Tirith (First Age)

Minas Tirith was the name of a great and mighty watch- tower and fortress with "walls of stone" on the isle of Tol Sirion, in the upper reaches of the river Sirion during the First Age. It guarded the Pass of Sirion against the power of Morgoth from the north.

Pass of Sirion

The Pass of Sirion, in the First Age, was a steep-sided pass between the Ered Wethrin and the Echoriad, on the upper reaches of the River Sirion. The only road through the pass was narrow and ran along the western bank of the river.
